Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup softened butter
- 1/2 Cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 Teaspoon salt
- 3/4 Teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 Cups California raisins
- 1/2 Cup finely chopped walnuts
- 4 Cups (1 pound) powdered sugar
- Powdered sugar; chopped nuts and/or chocolate sprinkles
- Licorice laces or whips, and small candies
Procedure
In large bowl, beat butter, corn syrup, salt and vanilla together until creamy. Mix in raisins and nuts. Sift in powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until mixture thickens. Turn onto board and sprinkle with remaining powdered sugar; knead by hand adding powdered sugar, as needed, to make stiff dough. Shape into 1-inch balls. Roll in powdered sugar, finely chopped walnuts or chocolate sprinkles. Cut licorice whips into 2-inch lenghts and shape into legs. Arrange three to four legs on two sides of each ball. Place on wax paper-lined tray. Top with small candies for eyes. Chill until firm.
