Ingredients

  • 1 Cup flour
  • 2/3 Cup sugar
  • 11/2 Teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon salt
  • 11/2 Cups California raisins
  • 1/2 Cup milk
  • 2 Cups water
  • 1 Cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons butter or margarine
  • Whipped cream

Procedure

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a mixing bowl. Stir in raisins, then the milk; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Spread batter into a greased 9-inch square glass baking pan. Combine water, brown sugar and butter in saucepan; stir until sugar dissolves and butter melts. Pour over batter. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes. Serve warm topped with whipped cream.
