Ingredients

  • 21/2 Cups California raisins
  • 2 Cups water
  • 2 Cups brown sugar
  • 1 Cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 Cup cornstarch
  • 4 Cups sour cream
  • 2 Teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 Teaspoon salt
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 2 prebaked pie shells (9-inch)
  • 3/4 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 Teaspoon cream of tartar

Procedure

Combine and cook raisins and water in small saucepan till raisins are soft. Set aside. In a medium bowl, mix together sugars, cornstarch, sour cream, cinnamon, salt and yolks. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick. Stir in raisins. Divide and spoon into pie shells. Beat egg whites with 3/4 cup sugar, vanilla and cream of tartar until stiff. Divide and spread on top of warm filling and bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden brown.
