Country Raisin Gingersnaps

Ginger and molasses team up with raisins for a snappy treat.

    • 3/4 cup shortening
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/4 cup molasses
    • 2 1/4 cups flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon ginger
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
    • 1 1/2 cups California raisins or Zante currants
    • Sugar


    Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture. Mix in raisins. Chill dough 1/2 hour. Roll dough into 1 1/4-inch balls; roll balls in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes.
