Brown Sugar Bars

Tangy raisins and chopped nuts fill these bars.

    • 1 1/3 cups flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
    • 2 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla
    • 1 cup chopped nuts
    • 1 cup California raisins


    Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. Melt butter in a saucepan large enough to serve as mixing bowl. Remove from heat and stir in brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add nuts and raisins. Stir in dry ingredients. Spread in a greased 13×9-inch pan. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes. Cut into bars, then cool in pan.
