California Raisin Marketing Board Flooded With Requests For California Raisins Calendar
Over 25,000 People Request Calendar; Response Reaffirms America’s Love Affair With The Famous Fruit
FRESNO, CA, February 9, 2006 – Americans really do love California raisins, and so does the rest of the world! In just a matter of weeks, the California Raisin Marketing Board (CRMB) has been inundated with an awe-inspiring 25,600 requests for their 2006 calendar, with about 2,000 requests coming from overseas.
The calendar, which was offered to the public at www.calraisins.org, features the 12 winning recipes from the CRMB’s national recipe contest called the “2005 Coast-to-Coast California Raisin Recipe Contest.” The winning recipes, each accompanied by beautiful and professional food photography, were used to create a large, glossy calendar that was available just in time for the holidays. (Please note, while the calendar is no longer offered, the public can visit the above website and download all of the winning recipes from the contest. Simply click on Recipe Contest Calendar Recipe Cards to learn more. Each recipe is formatted to fit on easy-to-read and file 3×5 cards.)
The very lucky and talented home chefs were rewarded with a variety of prizes, including a $10,000 grand prize, for their innovative recipe submissions to the Coast-to-Coast California Raisin Recipe Contest. Thousands of talented home chefs from all over the country entered their favorite consumer-friendly raisin recipes for consideration. The winning recipes were selected for taste, originality, presentation, and consumer acceptability.
“We’re thrilled with the response to our winning recipe contest calendar,” said Karla Stockli, Vice President of Marketing at the CRMB. “The level of interest in this contest certainly exceeded our expectations, but what else do you expect when it comes to California raisins? This calendar is a great way for us to promote California raisins as a healthy, nutritious food and ingredient in kitchens across America!”
The California Raisin Marketing Board was created by a State Marketing Order in 1998 and is 100 percent grower funded. Its mission is to support and promote the increased use of California-grown raisins and sponsor research of the fruit’s nutritional benefits. California’s San Joaquin Valley produces the highest quality raisins in the world. Nearly 4,500 raisin growers living in this fertile valley produce 98 percent of all the raisins grown in the United States.
